Trauma-Informed Support for Addiction Recovery
Before moving into private practice, I spent over a decade working in the homelessness and alcohol and other drug (AOD) sector, supporting individuals and families navigating the complexities of addiction, recovery, and relapse.
This work deeply shaped my understanding of how substance use often arises from attempts to manage overwhelming stress, trauma, disconnection, or emotional pain.
Rather than seeing addiction as a problem to be fixed, I approach it as a survival strategy, a brilliant adaptation that may no longer be serving.
My work is grounded in compassion, regulation, and a deep respect for the wisdom of the nervous system.
I offer support that:
* Understands the trauma roots of addiction
* Prioritises safety, agency, and connection
* Works gently with shame, grief, and disconnection
* Supports regulation and embodiment, beyond talk-based approaches
* Welcomes relapse as information, not failure
Whether you're in early recovery, navigating cycles of use, or exploring how trauma and addiction intersect in your life, this space is designed to meet you with care, honesty, and attunement.
This background allows me to work fluidly across the somatic, psychological, and behavioural layers of addiction, honouring both harm reduction and abstinence-based paths.
